Daily Ode 19 ... party sweater

Today I was thinking of the holidays and making a flag banner for the studio so I created one in a picture (see below). The flag banner looked a little lonely. There was lots of empty space in the picture and it looked like a perfect spot for a shindig, party, banquet, get-together, soiree, festivity...you get the idea.
The first person to arrive was Roger. He wanted to show off the sweater his mom finished knitting for him. She even appliqued a picture of a penguin, his most favorite bird, on the front of it. It was most definitely a party sweater.
Who will arrive next?

Breakfast at Tiffany's prints

Two new prints are available in the shop that are inspired by moments in Breakfast at Tiffany's.
The moment towards the end when Holly and Paul take a walk to get a quick bite to eat.
The natural lighting is wonderful in that scene. Towards the end when Holly tells Paul she's leaving she says this...

The party scene. Chaotic, loud, kitschy, kooky and colorful.

Daily Ode #18... a walk in the leaves

Taking a break from the computer and the staleness of being inside for too long I opened the door and took a short walk.
Right away I breathed in the cool crisp air and tugged at my cotton scarf which was more for warmth at that moment than for appearance.
I heard a crackling sound of leaves underfoot and remembered years of walking home from school during the fall. It was and still is my favorite season. I love the colors of the leaves and the look of them falling and surfing the wind. My favorite part is the sound most of all. The light scrape of the leaves touching the ground, the wind through the trees and the tap of my feet on the pavement.

little star Daily Ode

listening to this album while drawing.
it made me think of nursery rhymes, roller coaster rides, and cotton candy  which turned into this piece of a baby superstar star wearing daisies in a speckled pink sky.  My Daily Ode #17.

The Island of Mismatched socks ... now in color and sepia tone!

Two color versions for my Daily Odes #15 and  16.
Polka dot sock is training to be a yoga instructor.
Hearts sock just loves everthing and everyone.
Corporate black sock decides to play hooky from work indefinitely and fly a kite.
The balled up sock (currently in the fetal position) is a tad too sensitive. Athletic sock (with the fancy red stripe) is slowly getting over the Phillies World Series loss but is happy for the long blue and white striped sock... a Yankees fan.
Yellow, Argyle and Ankle socks are thinking about a boat ride on the ocean of fabric softener... unscented, which Argyle, allergic to most things is pleased about.

Daily Ode sketches 13 and 14

I was looking for a pair of matching socks and could only find 12 socks, no matches. Then I thought, what would Punky or Pippy do in this situation? 1 Stripe and 1 polka dot sock, and shoes to showcase them.
And, by the way, where do all the matching socks go?
There's an island for misfit toys (someone created a font inspired by it!) so maybe there's an island for mismatched socks. You never know.
I'll show this again tomorrow in full color.

Also the other daily ode was about a dancing whale named Bernardo. I'm not sure about the drawing of him. I may change it a bit. I was thinking of drawing more funny animal characters (like my secret agent rabbits)

while looking at movie listings and saw one for this hip hop breakdancing movie from the eighties (apparently the first movie of its kind) that also has a graffiti artist storyline in it. I remember the time I saw it a friend had it on during an all night painting session for a 2-D design assignment and critique due in the morning. I remember drinking lots and lots of coffee that night and all through the next day (with shots of espresso added to the coffee).

Anyway, who else would naturally be able to master a spin move and my answer was Bernardo who is also a poet and a model. You would never know it though. Bernardo's very modest. He's a renaissance whale.  A story and more from him later. A full color version of the sketch will be a daily ode very soon!
until then, ciao!
